Adding more greens like kale into your diet this year?  Here are a few quick tips!

*Always buy organic kale; it is sprayed with lots of chemicals making it one of the Dirty Dozen. The kale should be firm with fresh, deeply colored leaves and hardy stems.

*To store, place kale in a plastic storage bag removing as much of the air from the bag as possible. Store in the refrigerator where it will keep for 5 days. The longer it is stored, the more bitter its flavor becomes. Do not wash kale before storing because exposure to water encourages spoilage. Loss of some nutrients in kale—for example, its vitamin C content—is slowed down through refrigeration.

THE ULTIMATE GREEN SMOOTHIE  (Serves 2)

INGREDIENTS: (all organic if possible)

2 cups coconut water or unsweetened almond milk
2 cups fresh spinach, tightly packed
1 cup kale, stemmed and tightly packed
1 medium avocado, pitted
2 frozen bananas
5 dates, pitted (use stevia if you want a low glycemic version)
1 teaspoon Spirulina powder
1 teaspoon Chlorella powder
1/2 teaspoon Maca powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan sea salt

DIRECTIONS:

Blend all ingredients until smooth, pour into glasses and top with cinnamon.

Jackie's Health Tip of the Week 1/22/17

Digestive upset?

Sip apple cider vinegar. As many as 90 percent of Americans produce too little stomach acid. This acid, known as hydrochloric acid (HCL), is responsible for unlocking digestive enzymes, promoting digestion and improving nutrient absorption. Low acid means the body is not properly absorbing nutrients from food, so you may be prone to deficiencies even if you have a balanced diet! Acid reflux is the result of producing too little stomach acid. By consuming 1 to 3 teaspoons of raw, organic apple cider vinegar (ACV) with the mother (I use Bragg's) diluted in water about 20 minutes before eating, ACV can help to increase stomach acid and nutrient absorption. Be sure to swish water in your mouth after drinking in order to protect your tooth enamel from erosion.

Make Peace With Food

7:53 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

There is no one size fits all approach to eating.  Each person is different.  I admit I've hated food for most of my life...I've used and abused it to stuff my feelings, purge them out, and avoided it altogether.  Making peace with food is the best thing you can do for your mind and body. Food is not the enemy!  Think of it as something needed to fuel your body like how a car needs gas to run. You cannot run sufficiently without it. If you would like to learn more about how to develop a healthy relationship with food I welcome you to join my upcoming class on February 6th.

Whether your particular issue is emotional eating, binge eating, disordered eating or you just can't seem to get a handle on the whole nutrition thing, this is an event for you. There are 14 habits that people with healthy relationships with food possess.   During this class I share those habits, teach you how to manage emotional eating and ways you can change your eating mindset towards self love and not self hate. You will also walk away with a clear direction of "Clean Eating" for the healthiest version of you!

I Challenge You

2:42 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

One simple way to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables is to incorporate smoothies into your dietMaking a smoothie every morning as part of a daily routine can dramatically improve your health!
Smoothies are blended drinks that combine leafy greens with fruits, veggies and healthy fats, such as almonds, hemp seeds, flax and coconut. Popular leafy greens include spinach, kale, rainbow or Swiss chard, mint, parsley and collard greens. I prefer to use all fresh, raw ingredients, but using frozen fruit creates a thicker, ice cream-like texture!

Health Benefits of Smoothies:

*Provide you with the full spectrum of nature's bioavailable vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants
*Give you plenty of natural fiber to ensure excellent digestion
*Increase energy
*Weight Loss
*Help empower your immune system to protect you from illness

Take my challenge! Drink one smoothie each day for 14 days and I guarantee you will see and feel the difference!

I have created a Smoothies Made Simple Ebook which includes 30 of my favorite smoothie recipes that are gluten, soy, and dairy-free!

All you have to do to participate is to purchase the Ebook on my website. Click below and scroll down on the page!

I would love to hear some testimonials after you finish your challenge! You can even post photos and comments on my Facebook Page throughout the entire 14 days. Each person who completes the 14 day challenge and writes a testimonial will be rewarded with a GENEROUS gift! You must post comments, pictures, and a testimonial in order to qualify for the gift!

Need some accountability? Forward this to a friend and complete the challenge together!

*Challenge ends on 1/30/16.  You must consume 1 smoothie per day for 14 consecutive days.

Jackie's Health Tip of the Week 1/8/17

Add, don't subtract.

If you’re in a “diet mentality”, each day feels like a new battle to avoid the “bad foods”. So let’s flip that. Add, don’t subtract.

Don’t “avoid” your “junk food”.

Don’t “avoid” your prepackaged meals.

Don’t “avoid” dessert.

Just add so much healthy stuff — water, lean protein, fresh fruit and vegetables — that there’s less room or desire left over for food that doesn’t support your goals.

And at first, look for what you gain rather than what you lose.
Like muscle. Strength. Confidence. Energy. Sanity.
