Self Worth- How does yours rate?

3:48 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

A few weeks ago I was reading a story in my Success magazine about a Olympian that had a horrible childhood but still managed to excel despite all the negativity from her past.  She had many struggles but this is what she kept telling herself, "I'm not going to be a person that gives up on myself."

Just because you are having a hard time doesn't mean you should give up. Ask for help! Some things we cannot handle alone. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength and growth.

Every day I encounter people who have given up on themselves... these are the people that have no goals, have nothing to look forward to in life, give up on their health, complain about how much they don't like their life but don't do anything about it, work day in and day out in jobs they hate, have the same toxic relationships, or have the "I am going to die sometime" attitude so I'm going to eat whatever I want.... these people are "clutterers of the Earth."  They take up space and do not realize how much potential they could have!! God has plans for each of our lives and many people do not accept the fact they were created for a purpose.  We had a team training yesterday at work and I loved this quote my boss said she saw on a greeting card, "Nature never repeats herself and the possibilities of one human's soul will never be found in another."  Nobody will ever be exactly like you and hold your same destiny!

I hope you are doing what you love in life and are continually working towards your God-given purpose!! If not get up, look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you are worth it and deserve wonderful things and people in your life! :-D

Count Chemicals, Not Calories!!!

7:28 AM Jackie Mart 2 Comments

Earlier this week I was at the YMCA and overheard a woman raving about the "Skinny Cow Ice Cream Treats" and how they "taste the same as regular ice cream sandwiches, but without all the calories!"  I wanted to butt in and same something but bit my tongue since I was eavesdropping...

I decided to do a little research when I got home and this is what I found:

Skinny Cow Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich Ingredient List
And only 140 calories and 15 grams of sugar!! Think you are eating something healthy? Think again!! Take a look at the ingredient list. Can you pronounce and name anything on it? Do you know what these ingredients are? Man made chemicals, sugar, food additives, artificial flavors and sweeteners. These are toxins and your body does not know what to do with them when ingested and have adverse affects on your health!!

A lot of health care professionals and popular fitness gurus talk about calories in equals calories out. What are they trying to say?  Regardless of the type of food that you consume, your body will utilize it exactly the same. If you desire to remain the same weight, the amount of calories that you eat should be the amount of calories burned by your body.  If you want to lose weight, cut down on what you eat and exercise more.

The problem with this concept is that all nutrition is not the same and everyone’s body does not burn and utilize the nutrients the same. Hormones in the body and the negative impact of lifestyle, stress and medications play a significant role in efficiency of burning calories.

The advice is to eliminate all processed food choices and eat as fresh, raw and organic as possible. These food choices have been created for consumption and will aid in fueling your body with the right nutrients to balance hormones, reduce chemical food stress and encourage healing in your body!!

Count chemicalsNOT calories for health!!!

Do You Wake up at the Same Times in the Middle of the Night?

11:35 AM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

I have been waking up alot lately in the middle of the night and decided to research it a little! I figured it was my adrenal glands and cortisol levels because I have been very stressed lately.  I looked into what Traditional Chinese Medicine says and found some pretty interesting information about why you feel differently at different hours of the day! Thought I would share this website with you!

SUGAR- Addictive and Deadly

7:25 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

It has long been known that sugar has serious health consequences.  Sugar is highly inflammatory and contributing to diabetes, obesity, and even cancer.  Artificial sweeteners are even worse!!  Artificial sweeteners are just that – artificial.  They are made in a laboratory and undergo extensive chemical reactions.  They are foreign to our bodies  we don’t know how to process them.  Artificial sweeteners like aspartame (Nutrasweet) are considered excitotoxins and have been linked to headaches, migraines, allergies, digestive disorders, vertigo, MS-like symptoms, and seizures.  Some studies have even linked it to brain cancer!! Sucralose (Splenda) also undergoes a multi-step chemical process that introduces chlorine into the molecule.  So, if you are thinking drinking "diet" pop is better than regular because it contains zero calories, think again!! Pop is liquid candy! I cringe every time I see someone consuming it!

Top 10 Reasons to Avoid Sugar and Refined Grains*

1.  Sugar is the primary dietary cause of the obesity epidemic.
Fat doesn’t make you fat.  But sugar that turns into fat will.

2.  Sugar causes hormonal and metabolic imbalance.
Swinging insulin and cortisol levels in the body, which decrease then increase blood sugar, not only cause your system to crash but set up a cascade of abnormal hormone functions that lead to premature aging and illness.

3.  Sugar is your fast track to diabetes.
On the Standard North American Diet, it is only a matter of time before insulin receptors burn out, unable to handle the onslaught of sugar.

4.  Sugar increases the acidity of the body.
All disease thrives in acidic environments.

5.  Sugar causes inflammation
Inflammatory enzymes are elevated on higher-sugar diets.  Inflammation is at the heart of 98 percent of disease.

6.  Sugar is the primary reason for high cholesterol.
Your body’s innate healing system, which uses cholesterol, goes into high gear when the body is traumatized at the cellular level by high sugar, insulin, and inflammation.  The solution to high cholesterol is not to lower it forcefully but to remove the interference in the body causing it to rise in the first place.

7.  Sugar leads to heart disease.
Elevated inflammation in the arteries increases the risk of high blood pressure, hemorrhage, stroke, and heart attacks.

8.  Sugar is an anti-nutrient.
Your body’s expenditure to manage sugar is greater than the energy it gains from it.  If you think you are better off eating a chocolate bar, or piece of white bread, than going hungry – think again.

9.  Sugar is a known toxin.
Like all toxins, your body is constantly trying to eliminate it from the bloodstream.  You can assist your body by not giving it more sugar to handle.

10. Sugar promotes cancer.
Feeding cancer cells their primary fuel is like pouring gas on a fire.

Safe Sweeteners:

Try xylitol or stevia which are natural and will not raise your blood sugar!! You can find them at your local health food store or food cooperative!!

I love making raspberry lemonade with frozen raspberries, water, lemon juice, and stevia!! Perfect for a hot day like today! :)
